Blade Runner 2099 Release Date, Cast and Where to Watch
Blade Runner 2099 hits Prime Video on 25 November 2026, all eight episodes at once in 240+ countries. Cast, crew and where to watch first.

Blade Runner 2099 premieres on Prime Video on 25 November 2026, and all eight episodes drop on the same day. Amazon confirmed the date at San Diego Comic-Con on 24 July 2026, alongside the show's first teaser trailer, and said the series will be available in more than 240 countries and territories at launch. Michelle Yeoh plays Olwen, a Replicant Blade Runner in her final days. Hunter Schafer plays Cora, a fugitive who takes on a Blade Runner identity as her last shot at disappearing.
That availability line is the reason this guide is shorter than most of the ones we write. There is no staggered international rollout to explain, no weekly episode schedule to track, and no country-by-country platform split. Whether you are in the United States, the United Kingdom or India, the answer to "where can I watch Blade Runner 2099" is identical: Prime Video, 25 November 2026, the whole season. Below is what is confirmed, what is still unknown, and where the two Blade Runner films are actually streaming right now so you can catch up first.
Blade Runner 2099 release date and episode count
Confirmed by Amazon: eight episodes, all released simultaneously on 25 November 2026, exclusively on Prime Video, in over 240 countries and territories. This was announced during the show's Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday 24 July 2026, which is also where the first teaser trailer was shown. Michelle Yeoh, Hunter Schafer, showrunner Silka Luisa and executive producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson appeared at that panel.
Amazon has not announced a specific unlock time of day, so treat the usual Prime Video pattern of a late-night Pacific or midnight-local release as unconfirmed until the platform says otherwise. Episode titles and individual episode runtimes have also not been published.
Why an all-at-once drop is worth pointing out
Prime Video has spent the last few years doing the opposite. Fallout season two ran eight episodes weekly, premiering 16 December 2025 and finishing on 4 February 2026. The Boys season five opened with two episodes on 8 April 2026 and then went weekly across its eight-episode run. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season three is using a batched schedule this autumn: episodes one to four on 11 November 2026, episodes five and six on 18 November, and episodes seven and eight on 25 November 2026.
That last date is the same day Blade Runner 2099 arrives complete. Amazon is closing out one flagship in batches and opening another one all at once, on the same Wednesday. For readers, the practical effect is simple. Blade Runner 2099 is a binge, not an appointment, and there is no window in which some regions have episodes that others do not.
Blade Runner 2099 cast and characters
Michelle Yeoh as Olwen
Yeoh plays Olwen, a veteran Blade Runner who is also a Replicant, and who is days away from the end of her lifespan. A Replicant working as a Blade Runner is not itself new, since Ryan Gosling's K in Blade Runner 2049 was one. What is new is the clock attached to her. Luisa has said Olwen's arc is "very much taking the Roy Batty story from the first film" and telling it from the Replicant's point of view, referring to Rutger Hauer's character in the 1982 original.
Hunter Schafer as Cora
Schafer plays Cora, a human fugitive who takes on the identity of a Blade Runner. Amazon's own synopsis describes her as being in "a final bid to stop running" before she is forced to partner with Olwen. It is an inversion of the setup the films are built on: rather than a Replicant passing as human, Cora is a human who has spent her life running from Blade Runners and now has to pass as one. Note that Amazon has circulated two slightly different loglines: one leads with Olwen partnering with a mysterious new recruit, the other leads with Cora taking on the identity. Both are official, and both describe the same pairing.
Speaking at Comic-Con, Yeoh praised Schafer's physical work on the series, saying she had "never seen a more fearless action hero." Schafer said the action on this production was unlike anything she had done before.
The rest of the ensemble
Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben are series regulars. The recurring and guest cast announced by Amazon includes Katelyn Rose Downey, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Amy Lennox, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke, and Maurizio Lombardi.
No returning cast member from either film has been announced. If you have seen a claim that Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling or Ana de Armas appears, treat it as unconfirmed. Nothing in Amazon's announcement materials supports it.
Who is making Blade Runner 2099
Silka Luisa created the series and serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer. Her previous show was Shining Girls. Jonathan van Tulleken directed the first two episodes. Per Wikipedia's production summary, additional directors on the series include Ariel Kleiman, Marcela Said and Karena Evans.
Ridley Scott, who directed the 1982 original, is an executive producer. So is Michael Green, who co-wrote Blade Runner 2049. The wider executive producer list announced with the premiere date includes Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Ben Roberts, David W. Zucker, Clayton Krueger, Tom Spezialy, Richard Sharkey, Cynthia Yorkin, Frank Giustra and Isa Dick Hackett, with Steven Johnson as co-executive producer. The series is produced by Alcon Entertainment, which holds the Blade Runner rights, in partnership with Amazon.
The show was ordered as a limited series back in September 2022. Production was originally set for Belfast before relocating to Prague in May 2024, and filming ran from June 2024 to late December 2024, primarily at Barrandov Studios in Prague with additional work in Barcelona.
It is a limited series, and Luisa says there is no season two
This matters if you are deciding whether to invest. Speaking at Comic-Con in late July 2026, Luisa confirmed the show was always designed as a limited series with a complete story, saying the team "came to Alcon with a complete story that fits into the eight episodes we shot." She has said all eight scripts were finished before production started, and that the story has a beginning, a middle and an end in the way a film does.
The standard caveat applies: streamers have renewed shows billed as limited before. But as of now there is no second season ordered and no indication one is planned.
How it connects to Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049
Blade Runner 2099 is a direct sequel to both films, and it sits fifty years after the events of Blade Runner 2049. The timeline reads cleanly: the 1982 film is set in a smog-choked Los Angeles of 2019, Blade Runner 2049 jumps thirty years forward, and the series jumps fifty years past that. Amazon's synopsis says Los Angeles has been "reborn, just not by humanity," which points at a city rebuilt by Replicants or by whatever succeeded them.
The franchise all traces back to Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. Luisa has said she went back to the book for a lot of the world-building, using the longer format to fill in parts of the universe and its history that the films never had room for.
You do not strictly need the films to follow a new story fifty years later. But 2099 is trading on decades of accumulated context about what a Blade Runner is and what a Replicant lifespan means, and the emotional weight of a dying Replicant lead only lands if you have watched a Replicant die before.
Where to watch Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 first
This is where the regional split actually exists. We checked the current listings on 31 July 2026. Availability changes, so re-check before you commit to a subscription.
United States
Neither film is included with any subscription service in the US right now. Blade Runner (1982) is rent or buy only, via Amazon Video and Fandango At Home. Blade Runner 2049 is also rent or buy only, via Amazon Video, Apple TV, Fandango At Home and Spectrum On Demand. US readers wanting to catch up should budget for two rentals.
United Kingdom
The UK is the best-served market for the original and the worst for the sequel. Blade Runner (1982) is streaming free on BBC iPlayer, and is also included with Amazon Prime Video and with HBO Max, including via the HBO Max Amazon Channel. Blade Runner 2049, however, is rent or buy only in the UK: Apple TV, Rakuten TV, Amazon Video and Sky Store. There is no UK subscription home for 2049 at the moment.
India
India is the only one of the three markets where both films are included with a subscription. Blade Runner (1982) is on Amazon Prime Video, including the ad-supported tier, and can also be rented from Amazon Video. Blade Runner 2049 is included with Amazon Prime Video, JioHotstar, Sony Liv and VI movies and tv, and can also be rented from Amazon Video or Apple TV. If you are in India and already have Prime, your entire catch-up is free and your Blade Runner 2099 viewing is on the same app.
One thing to watch for on the original: Blade Runner exists in several cuts, including the theatrical version, the Director's Cut and The Final Cut. Services do not always make it obvious which one they are carrying, so check the title and runtime on the listing if the specific cut matters to you.
What is still unconfirmed
To keep the record straight: Amazon has not published episode titles, per-episode runtimes, an age rating, or a release time of day. No legacy cast returns have been announced. No plot detail beyond the official synopsis has been confirmed, and no review embargo or first-reaction window has been set, which is normal roughly four months out. Anything you read about specific twists, character reveals or a second season is speculation until Amazon or Alcon says otherwise.
Frequently asked questions
When does Blade Runner 2099 come out?
25 November 2026 on Prime Video. All eight episodes release that day.
How many episodes does Blade Runner 2099 have?
Eight. It is a limited series, and showrunner Silka Luisa has said the story is self-contained across those eight episodes.
Is Blade Runner 2099 weekly or all at once?
All at once. Amazon confirmed the full eight-episode drop on 25 November 2026, which is a break from the weekly and batched schedules Prime Video has used for Fallout, The Boys and The Rings of Power.
Is Blade Runner 2099 on Netflix?
No. It is a Prime Video exclusive worldwide, in more than 240 countries and territories.
What time does Blade Runner 2099 release in India?
Amazon has not announced a release time. What is confirmed is that India is covered by the same global simultaneous launch on 25 November 2026, so there is no separate India date to wait for.
Do I need to watch the Blade Runner films first?
Not to follow the plot, since the series is set fifty years after Blade Runner 2049 with a new cast. But the franchise's ideas about Replicant lifespans and what a Blade Runner does carry a lot of weight here, so both films are worth the time.
Will there be a Blade Runner 2099 season two?
None has been ordered. Luisa said at Comic-Con in July 2026 that the show was always planned as a limited series with a complete beginning, middle and end.
Who plays the lead in Blade Runner 2099?
Michelle Yeoh as Olwen, a Replicant Blade Runner near the end of her lifespan, and Hunter Schafer as Cora, a human fugitive who takes on the identity of a Blade Runner.
